About the event
We have three excellent joint headliners tonight, all completely different!
JACKDAW
JackDaw is an acoustic gathering of Rob Anderson, Gaby Szabo and Lyle Zimmerman. Sometimes joined by Charlie Austen and/or other friends, they play a combination of songs written by Rob, his old bandmate, cult 1970’s Oregon songwriter Wayne Drury, and beloved others.
The 2023 release, ‘Ghost InThe Big House’, began as a lockdown project with Rob working out
songs, emailing vocal and acoustic guitar tracks to Lyle, who sandpapered, waxed and weeded a band-and-a-half’s-worth of dusty twang and jangle from his home studio’s instrument menagerie. Drums from Jay Shaw and Dan Purtell and plush harmonies from Gaby, Charlie and Lizzy O’Connor, were added, ending up with an album that RnR magazine described as “Neil Young reworking the Rolling Stones’ ‘Wild Horses’”.
Their intimate live performances strip the songs down and bring forward dusty roots and harmonies.
RnR magazine... Four stars…dusty but lucid high desert stories”
Americana-UK magazine November 2023 - “ A joyful confident album … a sage-like quality to the songs”
JACK HARRIS
Steeped in myth and mystery Jack Harris's songs bring the narrative tradition of folk and blues music into the here and now.
His debut album 'Broken Yellow' received great acclaim in song- writing circles. Influenced by the old country blues masters (and folk singers of the British Isles), his performances are a riveting display of soulful, smoky vocals and intricate, finger-style guitar playing.

JOE WILKES
Before East London was the happy hipster get-together it is today, Joe Wilkes would travel up from his native Deptford to cut his teeth on the Spitalfields live music scene peddling an up-tempo brand of fingerstyle guitar, self-deprecating humour and political storytelling.
4 albums followed, the latest, Japanese Elvis receiving 5 star reviews. Currently working on a set of traditional folk pieces entitled Hope in my Chest, Fire in My throat he’s received support from Robert Wyatt and Cerys Matthews. Over a 20-year career Wilkes has travelled to most corners of the UK as well as regular jaunts to France, Spain, Germany and both US coasts.

"Joe Wilkes is one of those all-too-rare musicians who, when they play, make you believe in them instantly" Americana UK
